Youtube + Ebay = Hot Art Sales

"San Diego Afternoon" oil on canvas, 24 in. x 36 in. by Mattsartjourney.com

"Racing Waves" by Valsartdiary.com

A growing trend is for artists to sell art through the use of Youtube videos and Ebay auctions. The artist makes Youtube videos about how they created their art & uploads it to their Youtube Channel. The artist then links the video to their Ebay auction website & sells their painting or print. The video can be an entertaining excerpt about any thing under the sun, or more instructional like a how to paint DVD or painting lesson.
Here's a sample of Youtube painters... ENJOY!

Raleigh Convention Center Grand Opening Painting

Painted this past Saturday live, in front of Convention Center goers coming to the Grand Opening celebrations.  Listened to the tropical steel drum sounds of Mickey Mills and Steel of Carrboro. Produced this oil painting "Raleigh Convention Center, Anew".  It's a 36 inch by 24 inch piece.  Hurricane Hanna put a damper on the morning, excuse the pun.  But the crowds showed up in force.  Thanks to Mary Pat Calvert of Calvert Productions for selecting me to be the artist entertainment.

Hayes-Barton Pharmacy , After Showers

I've completed " Hayes-Barton Pharmacy , After Showers ", an oil on canvas painting that depicts the Hayes Barton Pharmacy in Five Points, Raleigh. The scene displays that refreshing view of Five Points, after a thunderstorm has passed through the area. Five Points is one the historic neighborhoods of Raleigh inside the beltline or ITB as I've come to learn :) The Hayes-Barton Pharmacy online is at http://www.hayesbartonpharmacy.com/
The painting measures 18 inches tall x 24 inches wide & is $375

It's Been a Summer Full of Painting & Art

Summer 2008 has been exciting for art opportunities.  In June, I was awarded the 2007 North Carolina Red Cross Special Volunteer of the Year Award.  This prestigious award goes to a volunteer who has made an outstanding service contribution to the North Carolina Red Cross.  I was awarded this honor for the Hurricane Katrina Benefit that I organized and hosted in August 2007.  All proceeds from the Katrina Event benefitted the Triangle Chapter of the American Red Cross .  A special thanks goes out to Mr. Barry Porter, Executive Director of the Triangle Chapter of the American Red Cross.

This Saturday, September 6th,  I'll be painting from life, outdoors as the entertainment for the Grand Opening of the New Raleigh Convention Center.  I was chosen by the Raleigh Convention Center to be the visual artist entertainer.  I'll be demonstrating how to paint from life, the view of the new Raleigh Convention Center.   For Directions, click here...
If you come downtown, stop by & say hi!

Go Away Hurricane Gustav

As Hurricane Gustav bears down on my hometown of Houma Louisiana , I'm glued to CNN and the Weather Channel.  The roof peeled off of a building near Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Church in downtown Houma.  My mom has safely evacuated to Enterprise Alabama.  She said her friend's son rode out the storm at his shrimp processing plant in Dulac Louisiana close to where Gustav 's eye passed.  So far there's only 6 inches of water over the road, whew... that's definitely no Hurricane Katrina.   But Hurricane Ike may be another story (I don't like Ike )

In recognition of role that the coastal wetlands play in absorbing the storm surge during hurricanes, I painted Tampa Bay Mangroves.

It's an oil on board, 12 inches by 12 inches.  The price is $350

To purchase Tampa Bay Mangroves, contact Matt via email at mattsartjourney@mac.com
